ADVANCED TRAINING INSTITUTE

·  The Institute was inaugurated on 20th MARCH 1963 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Advanced Training Institute is a field unit of Directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.

·  The Institute is located on a sprawling 30 acres of land. There are Administrative Building, Workshops and Laboratories with modern machinery and equipment. Hostel and dispensary for trainees, residential quarters for staff along with a Primary School are also there in the Campus.

·  The history of the Institute dates back to 1957, when it was started as ‘Central Training Institute for Instructors (CTI)’ at Aundh, Pune. The year 1963 witnessed its shift to the present premises at Mumbai where our first Prime Minister inaugurated it. The training was then confined to Craft Instructors’ training.

·  In 1967, to tone up the training of Craft Instructors, a Model Training Institute was attached to it.  The Model Training Institute afforded an opportunity for Practice Teaching to Instructor trainees under Craft Instructor Programme.

·  A Basic Training Centre for imparting Basic training and Related Instructions was started in 1970 for Chemical Trade Apprentices sponsored by industries under Apprentices Act, 1961.

·  The Supervisory Training under ‘Operation & Maintenance of Chemical Plant’ was introduced in 1971 to train supervisors for Chemical Industries.

·  The year 1975 saw commencement of Basic Training for Weaver trade apprentices deputed by Textile Industries under Apprentices Act, 1961 and 1976 Instructor Course for Weaver trade.  These programmes have since been discontinued from February 1994 due to closure of Textile Mills in Mumbai.

·  Advanced Vocational Training System (AVTS) was implemented by Govt.of India in 1978 jointly in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) to meet the training needs of the industries in the context of fast changing technology.

·  The Institute was upgraded and renamed as Advanced Training Institute in 1982.  AVTS Phase-II was implemented with assistance from World Bank in the same year.

·  Hi tech Training Programme in the areas of Numerical Controlled/Computerised Numerical Controlled Machines, Programmable Logic Control and Hydraulics Pneumatics was implemented in 1998 with assistance from World Bank.

·  Trades of Computer Operator and Programming Assistant and Information Technology & Electronics System Maintenance under Craftsmen Training Scheme were introduced in the year 2001.

· Module on Training  Methodology covering Principles of teaching (POT) of 3 months duration   has been started from February,2005. The module is meant for Vocational Instructors of ITIs & ITCs/Junior Technical Assistant & Vocational Instructors of DGE&T & its field institutes who have put in more than 5 years of service.
